Grant-making ProcessThe Goizueta Foundation is not accepting any applications at this time. We have completed an evaluation of The Foundation's ten-year grant-making history, and based on feedback from our grantees, we have enhanced our application process. The Foundation has selected a group of organizations representing different strategy areas to test this enhanced process. Once we have completed the pilot, we will post our new process and updated organizational overview forms. We encourage you to contact your program staff member with any questions or revisit the website later this year. Process: Many organizations are reviewed at every step within The Foundation's grant-making process; very few are asked to submit formal proposals. The process has been designed to allow The Foundation to provide each organization with fair and thoughtful guidance, allowing organizations to be placed on a timely track for review and consideration. The Foundation staff may request a site visit or meeting at any stage within the process. Those organizations that are declined are not done so based on the value of the organization or its programs; decisions are based on the current focus and highest priorities of The Goizueta Foundation. The Foundation priorities constantly evolve and the focus may change from docket to docket, year to year. Listed below are the steps in order. Please review carefully. The Foundation does not accept blind proposals and will not consider organizations that have not followed The Foundation's process. Step 1: Organizational OverviewAll organizations must submit an Organizational Overview Form (see below to download or print forms) and include the required attachments to be considered by The Foundation. Please note that there are two different Organizational Overview Forms for:
The Organizational Overview Form enables The Foundation to determine whether an organization's mission and programs are a match with the current priorities of The Foundation. If an organization is selected during the review session, a program staff member will contact the appropriate person to discuss the next steps. A letter of declination will be sent to an organization if it is not selected for continuation during our internal review session. Organizations may submit only one Organizational Overview Form each year. Organizational Overviews are accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis. All organizations will be notified in writing of any decision made by The Foundation. Step 2: Wish ListIf an organization is selected for continuation after submitting its organizational overview form to The Foundation, the organization will be notified by a program staff member. The program staff member will ask the organization to complete a wish list as the next critical step in the grant-making process. The wish list phase is an opportunity for the organization to communicate its greatest immediate needs, innovative strategic priorities, and/or new program ideas. If there does not seem to be an obvious program fit, The Foundation staff will work closely with the organization to determine if there is an alternative approach and/or other programs that were not listed initially. When developing a wish list, the organization is asked to provide information on each wish that includes: the name of the program; an estimated cost; a description of why the program is needed; target audience; an analysis on the program's short- and long-term impact; and a description of success measures. This information will be reviewed in an internal review session prior to seeking any proposals from organizations. A program staff member will contact the organization if it is selected for continuation in the process. If not selected, a letter of declination will be sent. Step 3: Proposal to The Goizueta FoundationIf an organization is selected for continuation after submitting its wish list to The Goizueta Foundation, the organization will be notified by a program staff member. The Goizueta Foundation seeks proposals from a limited number of organizations per year. Those organizations are tracked and placed on dockets based on rolling deadlines established by The Foundation staff. When drafting proposals, organizations are asked to share their detailed plans and timelines for implementation as part of the proposal process. Proposals to The Foundation are considered by the Executive Committee in May and November of each year. Step 4: Grant ReviewMany organizations are reviewed during all steps of the grant-making process, and very few are asked to submit proposals. The Executive Committee decides on each grant proposal based on materials prepared by the Foundation staff. Foundation policy precludes personal appearances by the applicants before the Executive Committee and Executive Committee members should not be contacted personally concerning a proposal to The Foundation. Executive Committee includes the following members: The Foundation attempts to contact via telephone the organization the afternoon of the Executive Committee Meeting to share the decision. In addition, each organization is notified in writing shortly after a decision has been made on its proposal. If a grant is approved, funds generally will be disbursed to the organization in December of each year. Eligibility for reapplication is specified in each organization's grant agreement. If an organization's request is declined by the Executive Committee, they are required to wait one full calendar year before submitting another Organizational Overview Form. Step 5: Post-Grant InformationGrant Publicity Grant recipients should consult with The Goizueta Foundation regarding any publicity or news releases concerning specific grants. The Goizueta Foundation does not conduct interviews with members of the press. It is our intent that those organizations who have been awarded grants from The Goizueta Foundation be highlighted for their involvement in the communities they serve. Reporting Requirements The Foundation values its relationships with grantees and requires all grantees to submit interim and final reports. Please refer to the reporting guidelines below for our most updated reporting requirements. |
